Thomas Sheen
« on: Friday 10 February 12 22:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
I am trying to find Thomas Sheen in 1861. Can anyone help please?
1891 census says age 47, living Cwmcarn, Mynyddislwyn. (looks like Twyncarn Terr.).
With wife Margaret and family.
1881 he is at Himalaya Range, Tredegar. Age 38, born Boughrood, Radnor.
Wife Margaret (Williams) is 39, born Talgarth, Brecs. Five kids and Margaret's father is lodger.
1871 says age 27, born Talgarth, Brecs (Enumerator error?). Living at Himalaya Range. Margaret 29, first born Frederick age 1.
Thomas and Margaret married 1868 Newport Distr.(Fbmd)

Any help finding Thomas in 1861 would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Rob

Thanks Carole & Osprey.
In 1871 & 1881 Thomas was a coal miner which fits in with Osprey's find. Although mind you, in 1901 he was assisting wife Margaret in greengrocers shop.
Boughrood, Disserth, Glasbury seem to be very close together, and there are lots of Sheens aren't there, but I think Osprey has found the right Thomas.
Thanks again both, especially for the other records Osprey.
Cheers,
Rob

there are several wills online at the NLW for Sheens in the area that may help you get further back.

Hi Osprey, thanks for the hint about wills.
I've been hoping to link Thomas or his parents Septimus and Catherine to Walter Sheen who in 1861 (49) is at Lower Bailey, Rhulen, Rads. RG9/4206/57/p1.
Have failed so far, can you help please?

sorry, can't spot baptisms for Septimus or Walter on FreeReg & very few of the Radnorshire extracted baptisms are earlier than 1813. I would think they're related given that Walter has a son called Septimus. Think this is the parish that Walter gives as his place of birth

If no-one on here has access to the records, the archives will do a quick search in one parish for 10

Or you could try the Powys Family HIstory Society which has published records in booklets & on disc
