Help find McKenzie family, please
« on: Friday 10 February 12 23:25 GMT (UK) »
Hi, wondering if I could ask for some help, please.
On UK 1911 Census I have Murdo McKenzie, wife Jean/Jeanie and sons Norman age 4 and Joseph age 8 months living in Glasgow. Murdo was born abt 1882 in Barvas, Rosshire, Jean in Strathaven, Lanarkshire in 1881 and the boys in Glasgow.

On 16 March 1912, Jean and the 2 boys sailed from Glasgow to Halifax aboard "Hesperian".
I have no idea where Murdo has gone. Can't find a death certificate or a passenger record.

Is it possible for anyone to find any information about this family? I would love to complete that section of the family  tree.
Thanks for reading this and I hope to hear from someone.
Kind regards

Hi there,

The family was travelling to Toronto Ontario to join the husband. This would mean he had already emigrated ahead of them.

Added: do you have names for Murdo's parents?

Hi again.

You should be able to find the image of the passenger manifest page about half way through the pages at this link to the passenger lists at the Canadian Archives. The image is also on *Anc*stry* if you have access but we can't (as far as I know) post those images here. The Archives passenger lists are free to use.

Added: I forgot to mention that the 1921 Canada census is expected to be released next year and may be of some help to you  :).

Hi PB
Again my thanks for your help. I am beginning to think that the original details I posted are not correct!
But I would still like to try and find out where he went and any info regarding his family. Its all a mystery as to where they went.
Still hoping someone will find something for me.

Sorry J.J. I missed that question.

The parents of Murdo  Mckenzie were Norman McKenzie and Christina McFarlane. Jeans parents were Joseph McNay and Margaret Stobo Lindsay.

The children of Murdo and Jean McKenzie were Norman McKenzie born 27 June 1907 and Joseph McNay McKenzie born 16 August 1910 both in Glasgow.

Hope that might be of help.
Thanks

O.k. you'll be happy that is submitted here, as we aren't likely to find a lot as the boys might be too young to be married within years available before the privacy laws, and no deaths come up as yet for the parents...
Canada has many Provinces each with their own availability of BMD
But just having the full names online may help a descendant find this thread
also Jean's full name at birth was Jeanie Mccoll Mcnay ( note 2 places listed for births for some reason)  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0k7y/ and she might also be known as Jane or Janet, all interchangeable

Just to clarify, I have seen the birth certificate record for Jean McColl McNay and she was definitely born in Flemimgton, Strathaven, Lanarkshire.

I'm beginning to wonder if they went to USA and not Canada but possibly won't find anything there either!
but thanks again for your help.
