Hi Trish,
My four times great grandmother is Mary Clare who married Robert Speechly in 1798 in Yaxley.  I have been searching for my Huguenot ancestors for a long time and I think have finally found the connection here!  I think from your information that her parents were William and Elizabeth, but I would like to confirm that and find out which de Clares fled from France to England!  This information was on a family tree that my aunty gave me many years ago.  My grandmother's name was Diamond Clare Needham, so they certainly carried the Clare name through the years.  I am located in Australia and would appreciate any information you could send me

Just looked over this again.
The Mary Bapt 25 Apr 1779 was buried same year 2 May 1779, Daug of Wm/Eliz.

So that would make the Mary Bapt 2 Dec 1781 the one that married Robert Speechley?

My wife has Huguenot ancestors but from London.

However, I obtained a book, 'The River Makers' by Trevor Bevis, about the migration to Thorney, Cambridgeshire, not far from Thornhaugh and Yaxley. It mentions Le Clair in 1668 and Clair in 1681, neither with a first name, followed by the note 'Few Entries.'

The migration was from Frnce to Ipswich, Suffolk, then Norwich, Norfolk, and Sandtoft, Lincolnshire, before moving to Thorney.

By coincidence, I have a relative who married a Speechley whose family came from Whittlesey, which is approximately 7 miles from Yaxley.

She sent me a family tree which also mentions Farcet, two miles from Yaxley.

There is only one Robert Speechley on the tree and he also married a Mary of Huguenot origin - Mary LETALL on 16th September 1764 at Ramsey, Huntingdonshire.
