Sir Walter Scott Australian relative
« on: Saturday 11 February 12 11:18 GMT (UK) »
Hello I have a great grandmother who used to say she was a direct descendant of Sir Walter Scott (poet). Her name was Margaret Scott (before she married a Andrew Findlay). She migrated to Australia from Scotland. Her parents were Andrew Scott and Margaret Scott. Andrew Scott was the son of Janet Scott who was related to Sir Walter Scott maybe through a sister in-law/niece Elizabeth. Any help appreciated. Regards Sandra (Australia)

Hi Sandra

Sadly, great-grandmother's claim to be a direct descendant of Sir Walter Scott is likely to be only wishful thinking, as all of Sir Walter's descendants spring from his daughter Charlotte Sophia, so none of them bear the name Scott, except those who annexed it to another name to preserve the connection to their illustrious ancestor, e.g. the Hope-Scotts and Maxwell-Scotts.

Hi

No, no Elizabeth in  Sir Walter Scott's family.

His grandparents were Robert SCOTT and Barbara HALIBURTON, and their children were:
Walter, 1729 (Sir Walter's father), Thomas 1731, Janet 1733, Mary 1735, Jean 1737, Robert 1739, Barbara 1742 and John 1749.
