1841 Census - Gibbs, Sedlescombe
« on: Saturday 14 May 05 15:32 BST (UK) »
Hi,
Please can somebody look for Thomas Gibbs in the 1841 census?  He is most probably in Sedlescombe or the close area.  His daughter Charlotte Gibbs married Walter Sellens in Sedlescombe in 1837.

Thanks

Chris,
Thanks for looking.  The Thomas Gibbs who was the father of Charlotte may have been dead by 1841.  If I have my information correct, there was a William Gibbs (age 29, Agricultural Labourer) living with Walter and Charlotte at the time of the 1841 census.  It may well be possible that the Thomas that you listed is of the same family.

Regards

Mark

hi Mark

The other Gibbs in and around Sedlescombe are:

HO107/ 1109/ 12 - Near Church, Sedlescombe

William Gibbs, 29, Ag Lab living with Walter Sellens 25, Ag Lab and Charlotte, 23, with Martha 3 and Jane 1
That fits in with all your criteria

Emma Gibbs, 15, Female Servant with William Baker, armer and family

The last one is an Ann Gibbs, 29, widow living in Bexhill with the Burgess Family

Hope that helps to clear things up a bit

Chris
