Hi Sally

An interesting article here www.scottisharchitects.org.uk/architect_full.php?id=200699 relating to one of the sons of Alexander and Annie Victoria MacRae.

Guess also, these will be death details over in Canada for a son to Alexander Snr. and Euphemia (Calder) https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/FL14-QMZ

Thanks

I don't think the Architect is one of ours .Grandma only had 2 brothers This isn't one of the names and Photo's only show 3 kids also. Alexander and Annie MacRae are very common names (I'll double check)

The Lachlan to Canada is Ours I found his Land purchase details, and he is named in a Book my Great Grandfather wrote as his brother. He was a minister also.

Monica,
That's interesting
Not Lachlan but Harold (He's new to me)
Euphemia would have been 53 There was a string of kids From 1866 3 Years from marriage
To '78 when she was 39. One at 87 when she was 48 then Harold in 92 at 53.
Maybe adopted or Grandchildren?
Another mystery to check.

Harold is showing as grandson to Alexander Snr and wife Euphemia in 1901:

Alexander Mcrae 63, shoemaker b. Eddrachillis, sutherland
Euphemia Mcrae 61 b. Eddrachillis, sutherland
Annie Mcrae 36, daughter, dressmaker b. Eddrachillis, sutherland
Hugh Macrae 30, son, agr. lab. Eddrachillis, sutherland
Harold Mcrae 8, grandson b. Glasgow

Address: No 2 Badcall Inchard, Kinlochbervie, Sutherland

Maybe an illegitimate birth covered up. Perhaps grandparents raised him from birth?

Did you check the birth entry for the 4yr old Donald Macrae who you mention as showing as son in 1891? May also be that he too was a grandson given the age of parents. Can't easily see Donald in 1901 to double check his details so far.

Hi Sally

The name Harold is fairly unScottish so his entry should stand out. I also think he married in Scotland so to establish his parent(s) this might be a quick and easy one to look at.

A shipping entry (there are a few) shows him arriving in Canada in 1919 with wife Margurita(search on SP as marg*rita) who also shows as Scottish born.

It turns out Donald was born in 1879 not 1887!
I couldn't find a birth in Glasgow that matches the census info for Harold.
I'll Try the Marriage next..Thanks!
