grandparents
« on: Friday 17 February 12 12:03 GMT (UK) »
My Mother was born in the Bellaghy Magherefelt district Ulster 18/9/1923. I have obtained an extract from the register and would like to trace my Grandparent's birth registers and marriage register. Short of random searches/hoping for the best and paying for certificates in the hope they may be relevant can anyone point me in the right direction please!! I am finding the whole thing rather frustrating at the moment to say the least! here are some details - they may be relevant

Mother:   Margretta Noel Doyle
Father:    Patrick Doyle
Spouse:   Kathleen O'Donnell
Townland:  Edenreagh Ballyscullion Parish

I would be eternally grateful if anybody could help.

Hi bishbailey, welcome to RC!

I'm probably going to see really daft here, but the extract you gave us - was that from teh birth cert?  If so, whose parents are the Doyles and whose spouse is KAthleen?

If I'm reading that right, then Margaret's parents are Patrick and Kathleen...

Then looking at the 1901 census for Hugh and Ann O'Donnell, you can find them in Edenreagh with Ann's parents (very helpful!) - Andrew and Bridget Diamond

I am presuming that you are unsure of when and where Patrick and Kathleen married.

Was Margretta the eldest of her family?
When approx. did her parents marry?
Where could they have married?
The answers to these questions will get you to their marriage certificate

This certificate will give their address at that time, their occupations and the name of their father which will help place them in the 1911 census and possibly even the 1901 census. If the age given is full they will have been aged 21 or older.

If you want to post additional information we can help get you started

www.familysearch.org have some Irish records - Civil Registration in Northern Ireland up to 1922, and some parish records.  I don't have much experience of researching in Ireland so I am not too sure how complete/accurate the coverage is.

They do have the birth of Ann Jane Diamond on 5 Dec 1868 to Andrew Diamond and Bridget Kearney.

Looks like it was quite a late marriage for Andrew - he gives his age as 44 when he marries Bridget on 3 Mar 1867.  She is 32.  They marry in Londonderry and give their fathers names as Edward Diamond and William Kearney.
