ADHIMAR heraldry help appreciated
« on: Saturday 18 February 12 11:37 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone on the Board know how we get to find the Adhimar family and  trace through heraldry ?
Hug a Tree was kind enough to try to assist but the question remains - How do you get started on finding the family in Heraldry - is there s net source and - if so at what price - perhaps another Rootschatter has dealt with theirs in similar mode, please?  :D

Because Adhimar/Adhemar appears from the earlier thread to be French, it may be a little trickier, as there was (and is) no central heraldic authority in France which regulated, or even kept the records, of French coats of arms.  that said, it is possible that you may find the name in d'Hozier's Armorial Général de France, created in 1696.  A copy of the original with hand-drawn coats of arms can be found on-line in a multi-volume set at the website of the French National Library (bnf.fr).  There is also there a later one-volume index, but the index is to a different version of the Armorial Général, so the page numbers don't match up with the handwritten version available at the website.  Still, the index can at least give you an idea if the name is in there, and lead you to which volume(s) to look in for it.  A search for "d'Hozier" on the French National Library website should lead you to all of those volumes.

I hope that this is of at least some help to you.

David

David - thank you for your much valued assistance in trying to help David Adhimar with his family research through heraldry on the name he believes to be French.

We feel sure that it could be Italian German or some other Nationality - perhaps even Prussian!

However, grateful to you for the kind research to try to put him on the trail......

Many thanks  ;D
