Cartner marriage
« on: Saturday 18 February 12 12:13 GMT (UK) »
HI!

Can anyone assist please...I am trying to find the marriage of Robert Cartner bapt 27 June 1819, in Penrith, to Jane?????.

Their son John was born Apr-June 1841, in Morpeth, Northumberland, so I guess the marriage could have been there, but in the 1841 census (June) they are living at Kings Town, Carlisle with John & Ellen Grogins and their children. They then remain in Carlisle throughout other census'.

The surname has shown as "Courtner", in some documents!

HI!

All I know from the census returns is that she is Jane...born c.1821 in Longtown,Westlinton, Arturet or Randelenton ...each census return says something different!!

They may, of course, not got married at all.

Why not get the birth certificate of one of their children to establish Jane's surname?

Didn't find anything, so far, in Carlisle marriages but may have been looking in the wrong place. Longtown and Randalinton are in Arthuret parish so that narrows it down. Will have a look.

Hi Clearly

Thank you so much for looking...I could buy a birth certificate as suggested, but have others I also need to get, so thought I'd enquire here first!

I may be able to put you in touch with someone who was tracing Cartners in Kingstown, Nicholforest and Penrith a while ago.  I see he is still in the phone book. Will ring him tomorrow.
