Any thanks for this information. This Thomas McElne was the son of Thomas McElnay and Ann Smart his second wife. I did not have this member of the family.

i became interested in the earlier Monaghan end. Substitute the name and then variants  you want to check in this excellent index database covering the 26 counties  with further brief  information in http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/results.jsp?surname=chooseyourself&firstname=&county=Monaghan&parish=&townland=&search=Search
the tithe help in narrowing the location of last name, sometimes leading to a focus point for rare names or pinpoint  for nearest surviving church records or more local history
I had some interesting results with a start on variant spellings
Corry where there are 23 entries for Co Monaghan inc one in Aghnamullen
Currie none
Curry   Jno   Ullina      Aghnamullen   Monaghan   1829
Curry   Isaiah   Corlaggin   Clontibret   Monaghan   1830
Curry   Thos   Glassdrumon   Clontibret   Monaghan   1830
Curry   Hugh   Drumleek   Muckno   Monaghan   1827
Curry   Js   Killigola   Muckno   Monaghan   1827
Enany none
Ennany none
McAnally  none however 53 turn up in Griffiths valuation Co Monaghan
McElney none
McElna none
McEnany  38 in Co Monaghan
McEnnany  none but turns up in Griffiths valuation Co Monaghan
McNally  100 in Co Monaghan
Mc XXXXXX  not tried,  it’s the inserted space often used egn Hayes database  see https://www.failteromhat.com
M’name  not tried

running out of time I quickly gleand a useful unchecked list using the above names I looked at an earlier record the1796 flax growers of ireland
https://www.failteromhat.com/flax/monaghan.php
M'Elnea            James               Clones               Monaghan
M'Enally           Patrick             Magheracloone        Monaghan
M'Endoo            Margaret            Ematris              Monaghan
M'Eneany           Bryan               Inishkeen            Monaghan
M'Eneany           Mary                Killanny             Monaghan
M'Eneany           Michael             Inishkeen            Monaghan
M'Eneany           Nicholas            Inishkeen            Monaghan
M'Eneany           Thomas              Clones               Monaghan

I finally looked at https://www.johngrenham.com/findasurname.php?surname=McElney+ and once again realized I had missed looking up a giant among the experts when you see his list of spelling variation
so I have run out of time  and feel I cant offer more
good luck onwards
