Births of Irish Ancestors b1846/1848
« on: Monday 27 February 12 12:09 GMT (UK) »
Hi, my family tree has taken me to Ireland and I cannot get any further back then the marriage of Rose Ellen McKinty (father John McKinty) and Edward McHugh (father Frances McHugh).
According to the 1881 census, Edward was born in Carrick Fergus (1846) and Rose born in Maghuanmore (1848)
The marriage was in 1875 in Larne, the family sometime between then and 1881 moved to Northumberland.

I cannot find any births for either of them and totally don't know where to go from here, this is the final part of my tree and would love it to be as complete as possible.

Civil registration did not start until 1864, so you need to check for baptisms rather than births. Do you know what denomination your McKinty and Mchugh ancestors were ?

Edward McHugh, South Shields, merchant, full age, bachelor, son of Frances McHugh, farmer
Rose Ellen McKinty, Magheramorne, full age, spinster, daughter of John McKinty, farmer

Since marriages usually take place in the bride's church it's likely that the McKintys at least were Presbyterian (marriage certificates do not list actual religion of bride and groom).

In case there later turns out to be a connection:

"Probate of the Will of Patrick M'Kinty late of Ballyedward County Antrim Farmer who died 20 May 1897 granted at Belfast to John M'Kinty of Ballyedward and John Semple of Craiganboy said County Farmers." Will mentions son William and John. See www.proni.gov.uk
