Hi

I'm not sure if you know of  stormybay or not but see this thread:

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,583882.0.html

Also, could you say how you know that his mother is Mary.

PS - it's Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant and Llansanffriad ym Mechain:

Yes gnu,
I know stormybay, we are related, and I have read that thread. I am pretty sure that his mother is Mary as I have traced her with her husband, Thomas and William on the 1841 census and they tied in.
I realise that I got Llanrhaeadr and Llansanfraid mixed up, thanks for that

Hi

Can you give me the reference to the 1841 Census, please. The one that stormybay found in Alberbury wasn't the correct family.

I, like you, think that the 1841 census in Alberbury is way out:

Crigion, Alberbury, Montgomeryshire part!
HO107/1433/1/5/3

Thomas Edwards, 50, ag lab
Mary, 55
Thomas, 15
William, 4
all b. county

so discount for the moment!

Mary would be 55-59 and rather old to have a four year old!

I've checked the church  baptisms in both Llanrhaeadr and Llansanffraid* for stormybay. There isn't one showing  for a William with father Thomas. I suggested that they could be non-conformist or William might be illegitimate.

Stormybay is planning a trip to the area in the near future to investigate further.

You could check on the FindmyPast site. They have the Montgomeryshire parish records.

* Added - and a fair bit of Montgomeryshire

Llansanffraid records are also on the IGI - batch no C100331

Thamks for that, I think that they were Primitive Methodists as I have an old Hymn book with my grandmothers name in it.

In that case, he could have been baptised outside the parish and this would  depend on the  circuit  :-\  Also, he could have been baptised as an older child/adult.

The Montgomeryshire Genealogical Society have published booklets on the Llanfyllin  Wesleyan circuit. This circuit might cover Llansantffraid:

http://home.freeuk.net/montgensoc/pages/pubns.htm

Scroll down to C/41 and C/42

Also  there  are the parish register transcription booklets, including those of Llansantffraid. These are likely to be the same as the Findmypast ones though.

Thanks for that gnu. I was a member of the Montgomeryshire FHS for quite a while, but found out nothing of interest. I am however following up some leads with Clwyd FHS of which I am a member
