Marriage of John Todd - Longbenton

Hi,

My wife's family tree is very complicated.

Her Gt-Gt-Gt Grandftaher was called John Todd (born Berwick-upon-Tweed approximately 1799).

In the 1841 and 1851 census, he is living in Bigges Main, Northumberland.

He is living with his wife (Anna) and 2 children:

Thomas Todd (b.approx 1833);
Jane Todd (b.approx 1835).

Also living with him is his step-son, William Allen (b.approx 1827).


I am trying to find John's marriage to Anna (approx 1827-1833), and also the baptisms of his 2 children.

However, I don't know Anna's maiden name, unless it was Allen and her first son was born out of wedlock.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I'm a Todd and I was told some years ago that there are many Todds around Berwick. I was told that the Todds used to cross the border and steal horses from the Scotts and sell them to the English!
My cousin has traced our family tree back to our Great Grandfather by the name of John Todd who was born in Leeds in 1852. My cousin says that there appear to be links with Durham and Northumberland but has not confirmed this yet.

Might be worth trying in County Durham too. They may have nipped across the river to get married. After a previous experience of a missing marriage north of the Tyne I always check out the other side of the river too. St. Hilda’s in South Shields was quite popular.
