I'm looking for any info on my great-great grandfather, George Strong
He was born in 1836 in Greystoke Cumberland
He was married to Fann Strong. Sorry, I don't know her maiden name. She was born in Wigton, Cumberland 1849/1850. Thanks. Jim Strong Milton, Ontario, Canada

Hi Jim & welcome to RootsChat

Do you know anything else about him -

have you found him on a census
did he emigrate to Canada and if so when?

It all helps to give us a framework and narrow down searches  :)

Answering my own question -

they appear to be on the 1871 - 1911* censuses as a couple

and George is on the 1861 & 1841 with his parents and 1851 at school

There is a possible marriage

George Strong & Fanny Keswick
Jul-Aug-Sep 1870 Registration district: Penrith
Vol  10b Page 557

Let us know if you have (or want) any of the census details

* we are not allowed to post details of the 1911 census on RootsChat, only information that can be found in the free indexes

Linda, Thank you and yes, I would like the cencus details
I'm really curious about his father and mother, any sisters or brothers as well as Fanny's family if that's possible. FYI, My grandfather, William Strong emigrated to Canada with my Great grandmother, Rebecca after my Great grandfather died in 1915  Again, thank you so very much

Hi Jim

Not sure how much you know about English & Welsh records   :)

Census reference - usually shown as RG10/5205/75/6   =
year code / piece no / folio / page

Enables anyone else to look the record up quickly!

Relationships are (or should be) to the Head of the Household

1841 census has much less information than the others.  In particular, relationships are not shown and ages over 15 should be rounded down to the nearest 5 years

BTW spellings are as shown on the original images (the Enumerator's pages)

I've got to go and do something more sensible (but less interesting), but I'll come back to this  :) :)

Linda

Added - there are a couple of very useful lists about registration districts
