Will the real child please identify yourself - COMPLETED & THANKS
« on: Tuesday 06 March 12 13:48 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody have any thoughts as to the name of the child who ‘died young’ in the centre of this posted portion of an old scribbled family tree?  I have my own opinions as to what the name says but as I’ve not been able to find him in the records I wonder whether I’m misreading, so some fresh eyes would be welcome.

I found this sketchy plan of a family tree ages ago amongst the possessions of a deceased aunt.  The obviously hastily scribbled tree is one of the reasons that I became intrigued with family research as I wanted to find out more about the people mentioned here.  Unfortunately however by this time the older generation were no longer alive to ask, and my father, who belonged to this family, could only fill in the more recent bits.  Over the years I have managed to confirmed a great deal of what is written, although other bits are hopelessly wrong and consequently the tree has sent me off some interesting wild goose chases.

Many thanks,
Maggie  :)

Hi Maggie

Do you mean the bit that says Jacob?

What a great thing to find.

I think it must be Jacob, as there is a line from his name to 'died young'

But wait a minute .... there are two lines above 'died young' ... perhaps that indicates two nameless children, siblings of Jacob, who 'died young' .... what a puzzle !

Poor Eliz. Marsden !

I noticed that as well. Same thing happened to my great x 3 grandmother - she set herself alight while filling a lamp. I was able to find a report in a local paper, perhaps Maggie might as well.

See what you mean - do you think there may be 2 children she didn't know the names of?

I would say the "died young" refers to Jacob too, it looks to of been put in above the line of names and a small line goes to it from Jacob.
The name I think you are puzzled about written under the "died young" could possibly be Jessi?
Alice   Eliz   Jacob   Jessi(?)   Robert

Under the name Jessi(?)  is a link to three others, Tom - Fanny and Robt so he couldn't be the one who died.

Sorry - needed to eat  ;D

All together on the original there are 10 little lines indicating offspring.  So far I have found only eight children including this 'died young' one, and you have just confirmed that you agree with what I think - that it says Jacob.  I've always thought that because of the little line leading from his name to 'died young' that it was he that died.  'Jem' or perhaps 'Jim' ties in nicely with a child called 'James' who belongs, and who did indeed have kids called Tom, Fanny and Robert (in addition to 2 more).

To be clear - it was Jacob I wanted an opinion on as I'm unable to find him in the records.  Also Jacob is not a name used in the family.
