I believe the 1891 record is correct. Hannah Goldthorpe was the step-sister of John Lockwood's father. Well done for spotting this. By the way can anyone decipher the handwritten note alongside the 1891 census entry for John Lockwood? Could it be 32nd W.R. Regt............ ?
Not sure about the marriage though. I can't find this in the West Yorkshire marriage registers to see if the father of John was John Lockwood or if the witnesses provided any clues. Anyone know how to locate the parish record?
The 1901 census record lists him as born in Barnsley which Kexbro' was often labeled as in later censuses but there are a few John Lockwoods in Barnsley. I can't find them in 1911 either.
I am still having no luck for any of them in 1881.

To me the handwritten note looks like it reads 33rd W. R. regt Army Reserve.

Haven't had any luck with the 1881 census either.

There was a DUKE OF WELLINGTON'S REGIMENT (WEST RIDING)
(33RD AND 76TH FOOT) formed in 1881. Would the 1881 census list soldiers in barracks?
If the marriage to Kate Foley is correct this will lead to a dead end. In 1911 they were both in Bradford in their late 40's and with no children. Kate's mother was born in Ireland and so they were probably catholics. Would this explain why there is no baptism record in the West Yorkshire registers for her daughter Bertha Foley born Bradford about 1886? It's a long shot but John Lockwood may be the father.

John Lockwood joined the Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment on the 10th February 1882 in Halifax. His age was written as 19 years and 2 months, the parish of birth given was Barnsley.

I'll come back with more in a minute. :)

Looking at the above date of 7th February 1894, it would fit with a marriage in the June quarter of that year.

Did you see where I thought I might have found Emma in 1891 and 1901 - there are times when you worry if people use their notifications, information could have been missed.

In 1891 Kate Foley is with her daughter Bertha, her marital status is given as single.

I should also add that on the attestation papers, John Lockwood isn't married and it's listed that he hasn't any children. I'm not sure when that was written though.

There could have been a medical condition which resulted in John being unable to have children. If you would like further details please send me a personal message.
