Grennan / Coghlan /Daly / Molloy in Offaly
« on: Wednesday 14 March 12 04:07 GMT (UK) »
GRENNAN / COGHLAN / MOLLOY / DALY / Offaly, Tullamore, Rahan, Killina area.

I am curious about a photo I have with Grennans and Coghlans in it.  They are standing in front of a store. On the window it says E. Shepherd (Confectionery on one window and Tobacco & Cigars on the other)
They were from Tullamore, Rahan Area.  Does anyone know how to search for this store or tell where it was located?  Or can anyone identify any of the people in the photo?  I can only be positive of the girl on the left being Alice Coghlan (went to US in 1905). The tallest man in back is James Grennan (went to US in 1903).  I looks like it was taken just before James came to the US.  Some of the other men are Grennan Brothers (Edward b. about 1867, William b. 1874, Peter b. about 1881, Daniel b. 1883, and father James b. 1834)  Their mother was Winifred Daly but I don’t know when she passed away.
If anyone has any ideas I would love to identify everyone and match the names with the faces. . . . Thanks M

Are you sure it was taken in Ireland? are there any photographer's details shown on front or back? the wooden siding and louvered shutters at the top look 'foreign' not Irish to me.

No noting on the photo.  I thought the same about it not being Ireland because I havent seen any town photos with trees in ireland.  I may have to rethink who these brothers are.  They may be cousins in the US.
I also wondered about the  Y  flag.
I have other Grennan brother photos. I will put some on here later.

Thanks. . . M

We actually do have trees in Ireland, even in towns and cities.
Think you might need to check the places in America where it could have been taken.

The building doesn't look Irish to me either - wooden facing on the upper floor, no sign of bricks ..

something slightly unusual - there's what looks like a thermometer to the left of the door ...

... but not unusual for America or Canada especially in early 1900s  :)

Thank you for the photo of the headstone.  Colm was my mothers cousin.  Colms Father Edward was brother to my Grandfather James Grennan.
I never knew any of the relatives from Ireland.  I got a lot of information from Ron Johnson married to Mary Grennan. They are in Chicago, Illinois area.  If you have any more Grennan photos, Id love to see them.

You still haven't mentioned where in America "Alice Coghlan (went to US in 1905)" lived  :-\ it would be nice to see if we can find the location of the store
