trying to find information on accident in the thames.
« on: Saturday 17 March 12 11:56 GMT (UK) »
my grandfather  had an accident in the london docks, and died on the 20th december 1924, at wapping. it was something to do with a crane, he was 36, i have looked at the newspapers of that time  to find some info, but to no avail. his name was john alfred hurley, known as jack. he left a wife and four little girls under the age of five. there was no compensation, and help and i wondered if there was any information i could find, as i feel it was very unjust. any info will be appreciated  or where i could find any website with newspapers of the eastend in those days.. thanks

I wonder if the contributors to the forum on this website:

http://www.newhamstory.com/

might be able to help you?  I did a quick search of the site, but could not find the name Hurley mentioned.  However, someone may know where to find the information.

Hello there,

My Grandfather was Alfred Hurley and had a brother John who was killed in the docks.  My Grandfather married Margaret Blake and they had 9 children and lived jn Wapping, London.

Are we speaking about the same Family?

Kind regards,

Mari Backman

Hi Mari

Welcome to Rootschat  ;D

Lavender hasn't been online here for a while but as long as their email address hasn't changed, should receive a notification that you have posted and hopefully come back soon.
