Catherine Hunter, nee Greig
« on: Sunday 18 March 12 18:34 GMT (UK) »
Hello, I am looking to find out what happened to my great great great grandmother Catherine Hunter, nee Greig.  She married on the 11 August 1868 to a William Hunter (sometimes spelled Hounter) in Tillicoultry and she lived here as well.  It was her second marriage; she was widowed.  I can not find her in the 1881 census so I wonder if she immigrated.  Her new husband, William Hunter wasn’t to be seen on the 1871 census either!  I know all of the information about her children and her son, my great great grandfather, John Templeton,  was born illegitimately prior to her marriage to William.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

John Templeton was living with Simeon & Jane Dobson in 1881 in Selkirk

Did the children remain in Scotland?  Have you checked for a death for Catherine between 1871-1881

What was William's occupation on the 1868 marriage cert?  Was he a mariner?

One online tree has Catherine in Galashiels Selkirkshire in 1891 census , then Edinburgh Midlothian in 1901 census  :-\

Thank you very much for your help!  Catherine Greig (Anderson) Hunter was born in 1837.  On her marriage certificate to William Hunter, there wasn't an occupation listed for him.  I wonder why he wasn't with the family on the census?!

Have you viewed the 1881/91 images on SP to see if she is shown as married or widowed
