Ah,, persistence pays off...the "sounds like" didn't find him with surname, so I just tried ernest alone!
...so it likely was just enumerator error he was marked married in 1911...( or he was spoken for so he used the term married?)
I think we may have originally speculated she was a Brown or a Fry...I can't remember what I looked for back then, I just remember looking through tons of stuff and finding little...

EARNEST H BANNES & JENNIE BROWN
MARRIAGE: 18/03/1914 THOMPSON
REGISTRATION # 1914,095141

There are several Jennie Brown, so to pinpoint which one she may be you may want to send for the marriage cert http://vitalstats.gov.mb.ca/Query.php

Apologies to LEPK as polarbear pointed out that url was posted by you earlier and I'd missed it.... welcome to rootschat by the way. Thanks for helping on the thread.

emmguy , We have a soft heart for the wee ones sent to Canada, so we often work harder at getting them solved...Many of us have been trawling through information to see what else we can find...Of course many do not realize this as we only post what we find and if nothing is found it is so much more a thankless task. J.J.

Sorry I'm late in coming to the thread. I had the privilege of going to Ernest Barne's gravesite a few years ago in Miami, Manitoba. Here is a picture of his headstone.
Gandley (but known as Stanley in Canada)- Ireland to Birmingham
Ball, Kempson & Franklin - Birmingham
Shorter - Surrey
Dyer - Devon
Dawkins - Co. Cork, Ireland
Heffernan - Ireland
Huck - Alsace, France
Reinhart - Baden, Germany
Bowman & Ellis - England
Etheridge - Gloucestershire

Who all came to Canada in a little row boat, clap clap, clap your hands!!
