Looking for Descendants of William John Rennie and Margaret Kennedy

William John and Margaret were both born in Ireland about 1847. They were married in Gourock on 15 sep 1868. They have about 8 children.

Daniel - b. abt 1869 in Ireland
Mary Ann - b. 9 Jan 1869 in Gourock
Mary - b. abt 1874 (not sure about this or james)
James - b. abt 1874 in Ireland
Ellen May - b. 12 Jul 1874 in Ireland
Hugh - b. 17 May 1876 in Ireland
William John - b. 22 May 1878 in Ireland
Archibald - b. abt 1882 in Ireland

Daniel was married twice. first to Elizabeth McLarnon in Ireland on 17 May 1888. then again in 1904 to Kate Michael in Philadelphia, USA. He then died in 1910 in the USA. Elizabeth had 4 Children with Daniel:

Mary(b. 1889, Ireland), Ann J(b. 1892, Ireland), William John(b. 1897, Gourock) and Margaret(b. 1900, Gourock)

Kate and Daniel had one child: Mae(b. 1904, Philadelphia)

Mary married a man by the surname McGrath. together they had a son, Hugh.

James married Margaret Brennan on 13 Jul 1897 in Ireland. They had 13 Children:

---Alexander Allan married an Alice McKillop on 16 Dec 1928. No kids known.

---Daniel married Helen MacLean on 18 Oct 1935, Gourock.  They had 9 kids.

---Mary married a man by surname of Harrison. No kids known.

Ellen May married James Morgan in 1913 in Ireland. They had a daughter, Jean (b. 5 Apr 1915, Ireland d. 29 Nov 1990, Ireland). Jean married William Winning Smith Scott in Feb 1944, Ireland.

Archibald married Annie McGrotty on 7 Oct 1903 in Gourock. They had 4 children:
William John (b. 4 Jan 1904, Gourock), Margaret (b. 1906, Ireland), Sarah Moore (b. 26 Apr 1908, Gourock) and Mary (b. 1909, Ireland)

You have Mary and Mary Ann as individual children of James and Margaret; Mary and Mary Ann are one and the same person.

Also, when Mary married Robert McGrath they first had had a son, Hugh, followed by a daughter, Margaret Kennedy McGrath born 27 Feb 1908 in Dervock, County Antrim.

Hugh Rennie, born to James and Margaret 17 May 1876 does not appear to have had a family of his own? Cannot locate his date/place of death either.

Sorry just keep me right... Mary and Hugh are children of William John + Margaret.

And I have a census with a Mary born 1874 in ireland which doesnt match with Mary Ann born '69 in Gourock, leading me to believe it is 2 separate people and that Mary Ann possibly died in ireland. Ellen and James prob werent born '74 but close to.

I have no record of Hugh on any census so he either died young or stayed in ireland.

janceyb87 you are correct in stating that  Mary (Ann) and Hugh are children of William John Rennie/Margaret Kennedy.

Mary and Mary (Ann) are definitely different people.

Mary Ann went back to Ireland with most other family members some time between 1901 and 1906. Her brother James and his family remained in Scotland.

She Married Robert McGrath in Dervock 06 Aug 1906 and two children were born there: Hugh McGrath b. 03 Dec 1906 and Margaret Kennedy McGrath b. 27 Feb 1908.

In Oct. 1948 Mary Ann McGrath emigrated to NY with her nephew Hugh Morgan to stay with her daughter, by then Margaret Kennedy McGrath Stinnett, 97th. Street, New York, NY.

Her son Hugh went to the USA in Oct. 1929 - they all died in the States.

Mary Ann Rennie McGrath is buried with her brother Daniel Rainey near Philadelphia, PA where he was killed in an accident at work in Philadelphia in 1910. The name spelling changed with time, and some of the family could neither read nor write, which probably exacerbated that situation.

Ellen (May) Rennie married a Robert Woodside in Gourock Episcopal church 01 Dec 1899.

He and Daniel Rennie/Rainey went to Philadelphia in 1901, where Robert died in 1906 before his wife and son Robert could join him.

Ellen (May) remarried widower James Morgan in Dervock about 1913. They had two children, Jane and Hugh.
Ellen died in Dervock about 16 Oct 1922 and is buried in the Derrykeighan parish Church of Ireland graveyard in the village.

William John Rennie and his wife may both have died in Dervock but I have no solid information to back that up.

By the way, I am Ellen May's grandson, and am attempting to piece the various branches of the family together. I have a public family tree on ancestry.com
