Does anyone have a burial listing for St. Cadwaladr's churchyard?
« on: Sunday 25 March 12 00:49 GMT (UK) »
I'm looking for a listing of burials for the churchyard (St. Cadwaladr's) at Llangadwaladr, Anglesey.  A relative has looked for family gravestones there, but has not found any that can be identified as 'ours'.  She reports however that several stones are illegible, so perhaps a listing will confirm that the following are buried there:

Elinor 'Ellen' Owen, wife of Henry, b. abt. 1816, d. 21-1-1850 at Ty Gwyn of scarlet fever.

Their children all born at Ty Gwyn were:
Richard Owen b. 21-1-1843
Robert Owen b. 9-8-1844
Margaret Owen Thomas b. 21-3-1846 d. 12-2-1934  buried in Dwyran C.M. Chapel churchyard
Catherine Owen b. 14-10-1847
Jane Owen b. 19-5-1849

Also looking for this baby of Margaret Owen and Robert Thomas:
Robert Thomas b. 4-2-1868 d. 1-1869

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Thank you for your response.  I am looking for a complete listing, the link you referred me to seems to be a listing of members belonging to one family.  Best wishes.

Hi,

I don't know if you are still looking for answers to your question, but there are 2 publications by Gwynedd Family History Society which give you the details you were seeking.

The book - Burials Index for Parishes in South West Sector 1813-1850 (ref D011) has the burial of Ellen Owen age 34 of Tygwyn, Bodowen on 24 Jan 1850 and

The book - Church Burials Index for the Parish of Llangadwaladr 1851-1950 (ref D094) has the burials of -
Richard Owen - Age 15 of Hermon on 16 March 1858; Robert Owen Age 21 of Hermon on 30 Aug 1865; Catherine Owen Age 12 of Hermon on 1 Dec 1859; Jane Owen Age of Hermon on 7 March 1861; Robert Thomas Age 11 months of Cwrt Trefdreath on 19 Jan 1869.

Whilst perhaps not related, there are other Owen or Thomas deaths referring to "Hermon" and if you want other details please let me know.

Hi,

Sorry I missed off Jane's age when she died in 1861 - it was 11.

Thanks so much for your help with my query, Al.  My relatives in Wales have checked for gravestones there, but either they don't exist or are too worn to read.  I would like to know the other Owen and Thomas listings in the cemetery if possible too.  -- Kate

Hi Kate,

I am assuming you are just looking at "Hermon" as an address -

Ellen Owen Age 12 - Burial 18 Sept 1869
Jane Owen Age 74 - Burial 31 May 1871
John Owen Age 23 - Burial 14 Jan 1851
John Owen Age 2 weeks - Burial 19 April 1851
John Owen Age 61 - Penrallt, Hermon - Burial 2 Oct 1869
John Owen Age 70 - Burial 20 Nov 1876

No Thomas's with the same address as Robert (Cwrt Trefdreath) in the 1851-1950 book but in the earlier book under the parish of Trefdreath it shows -
Mary Thomas Age 1 - Hermon, Llangagwaladr - Burial 11/03/1841
Mary Thomas Age 5 - Ditto - Burial - 03/02/1848

It may be worthwhile purchasing the books from Gwynedd FHS if you want to see them all in print.

Anything else I can help with - just ask.

Alan
