Skeleton in the Closet

Skeleton in the Closet

A skeleton in the closet
is what I would love to find,
not just some boring character
who lounged around, then died.

I’d like to find a Knight
who did a dirty deed, or two!
Or a nasty cutthroat pirate
who loved his cockatoo!

I wouldn’t mind a Highwayman
well known for his derring-do.
A suave, sophisticated ladies man
who made them sob as he bid adieu.

But frustration is what I get
as the records I try to search,
‘No match’ keeps popping up
and to those words I am averse.

Ag-labs are difficult to find
as they skip from place to place,
and of that Army Deserter
I simply cannot find a trace.

I’ll just have to keep on digging
through the family history chests,
till I find those ancestral bones, and,
maybe, some hidden family crests!

What a great poem!  :)

I haven't found any exciting skeletons.....still looking!!

My Grandad used to write poetry which is a lovely reminder of him and his ways.....so make sure you keep yours safe for future generations to get to know you!!  ;D

I don't know if this counts as a skeleton  :o  or as wishful thinking  :) :

A female of the family (my mother's side) was a Lady in Waiting at the spanish court. She had an affair with a courtier there and had a child, born 'on the wrong side of the blanket'.

She was sent home (to Hungary ?, Austria ?, it was probably all part of the Habsburg Austo-Hungarian Empire then) in disgrace.

ps.
Does this mean that I am an an illegitimate Habsburg ??   ;D  ;D

Mine is definitely more wishful thinking than a skeleton - so far anyway.

My GG Grandmother was supposedly Nurse to King Alfonso of Spain. Can you give me any tips on where to start looking for records of the Spanish Royal household?

Cheers

The trouble with finding skeletons is that they upset people.  I discovered that my half-sisters' grandfather had spent his youth in a reformatory.  They were not amused.  I also found that our father had lied about his rank in the Navy in World War I, and been a deserter to boot.  I was thrilled to bits, but they were less than chuffed.

Great poem Jackie.

I've got a few skeletons need sorting out, but the one person who could give me the answers says I am better off not knowing!   Beats me because it is my husband's family, not mine - and anyway, I can keep a secret!!
