I wonder what happened to Sydney WATT ?

There is recorded evidence that he joined the  Army in 1939 whilst living at Subiaco. He married in 1947 to  Mary Rose TOOVEY and died 1990 aged 88.

He frequently altered the order of his given names which were SYDNEY MERVYN.

Details can be given, but I do not see him as pivotal to your search at this point.

It may be of interest to note that on the 1943 E ROLL,

MERVYN SYDNEY WATT  is listed  at  10 COGHLAN ROAD SUBIACO  which is the same address as WILLIAM GEE and his wife shown in the death notice ;)

As this was a fair time after the engagement and probably when he was away in the forces, it is likely his name had not been removed prior to his departure.

If you use the link below you will se 2 service history summaries for BERNARD HAIG CATLEDGE , ELSIE's husband.

He changed his age on the second to appear a bit younger ;)

He also joined a different force the second time, after his marriage.

His NOK Albert on the first record, may have been his father.

There is a summary for GORDON LAWRENCE GEE too.

Hi Westby
Ignore the one for Gordon Lawrence - my fault entirely.   when typing the death dates I had I gave you one of mine scribbled in the middle of the names.

Thanks Sue, Bev and everyone who helped out with such wonderful information.  How fascinating that Bernard Cartledge joined the army first, then joined the navy.  I had found his navy history but didn't know about the army history.  Unfortunately, his service records for this first period are not yet released.  I'd love to know why he left/or was allowed to leave.

Also interesting about Sydney Watt.  Seems he was close to the family.  Who knows whether they were still engaged before Helen married somebody else while he was away.  I guess he would have received one of the notorious "Dear John" letters.

Cheers

Gordon Lawrence Gee was my Grandad. He was born in 1924 and sadly passed away in 2013. Be very interested to hear of any family history for him.
