It does state on ancestry that Henry and lily we're married in 1897

The 1911 census has a column that asks for "Completed Years the Present Marriage has Lasted".

As the census was taken on 2nd April 1911, Henry & Lily's 14th Wedding Anniversary was therefore sometime between 3rd April 1910 and 2nd April 1911?

So we need to look for a marriage between 3rd April 1896 and 2nd April 1897!

The only marriage that comes close is a Henry Edmonds to Matilda Ball in 1897 - but I can see that couple in 1911, so that's not them!

Maybe they didn't actually go through a marriage ceremony? :o

Hi everyone. Thank you for everything found in the past. I have now got a birth certificate for Ann Elizabeth Edmunds whom I presume is the sister of my Henry jnr.  I believe that they called her Elizabeth hence the 1911 census details. There was a sister violet and Lily and a brother Thomas. I believe that Thomas was young when he died.

The birth certificate for Ann Elizabeth shows her being born in Gloucester on 11th January 1907. Her parents being Henry and Lily Edmunds (formally Haford). The signatures are marked with a x . The address is 2 swan Lane Gloucester.

I also found pension records for Henry Snr and that states his place of birth as St Owen, Herefordshire although the census states Birmingham. They also show children’s names although I believe Ann Elizabeth is shown as Lizzie on pension records.  The address of Swan Lane is the same although Henry snr wife is Lily Hasper or similar.  I am presuming that these may be mistakes by individuals entering information.

I cannot find any marriage for Lily and Henry snr or births for either of them or census records prior to 1901.

I am hoping that someone might wave a magic wand to help

Thanks

Gill

Since you last psted we now have the GRO with mother's maiden names, which helps make some links (note the variations in spelling)

EDMONDS, LILY mmn     HARFORD
Q1 1899   BRISTOL  Volume 06A  Page 105

EDMUNDS, VIOLET        mmn HARFORD
Q4 1904  GLOUCESTER  Volume 06A  Page 324

The boys are proving more of a challenge

There is a Lily Harford b Bath who could be the mother, but she appears to have been born in 1883. I can't find a marriage.

Hi Mabel

Yes the men are a problem. I found thomas birth. I know henry was born about 1902 as he was my husband’s grandfather and he died young in 1926. He married in 1923. I applied for a birth certificate but one couldn’t be found. I have searched for his mother and father’s marriage but like you have come up with nothing.
Thanks for helping
Regards
Gill
