Gosforth PR - look up request
« on: Monday 02 April 12 22:03 BST (UK) »
Hi

In the Joiner marriage index there is a marriage of John Jobling + Anne Peele in Gosforth 9/9/1809 however in BTs for Gosforth this page is not there. I don't know whether this marriage is one of mine and wonder if someone could check the Gosforth PR to see if there is more detail.

- the son of John Jobling + Ann was baptised in High Heaton but no surname shown for Ann.
- census have John comimg from Stamfordham + Ann from Heddon.
- John's parents are John Jobling + Ann Morrow

Any help appreciated

Not much in the marriage in Gosforth:  John Jobling and Anne Peel both of this parish by banns 9 Sep 1809.  Wit:  John Appleby, Joseph Ramsey, and John Harle

Remember that  "Of this parish" just means they had been there more than three weeks

Thanks Janis

I was afraid that would be the answer - none of the witnesses help me either. Unfortunately I only have the names for 2 children and that doesn't help me either.

It is possible it is the right couple as they moved to High Heaton & then Longbenton, not too far from Gosforth. Hopefully I'll find more children and that might give me a clue to 'my' Anne's surname

Thanks again

Hi Judith

This is a very old thread and you have probably sorted it all by now, but I am just starting to look at the Jobling ancestors of my grandsons on their paternal line. May I ask if the following fits with what you have found?

I'm currently looking at John Jobling, born 25 Apr 1810 at West Kenton, baptised 30 Dec 1810 at St Nicholas, Gosforth and the transcript (NDFHS transcripts on FindMyPast) says his parents are John Jobling, a pitman native of Stamfordham and Anne Peel his wife, daughter of Joseph Peel native of Kenton.

The John being baptised in 1810, I believe married a Mary and they had three children Joseph (born 1833, baptised All Saints) George (born 1834, baptised Longbenton) and Ann (born 1839, baptised Longbenton, abode Bigges Main)

There is a likely looking birth registration for the youngest child, Ann, in Q2 1839, Tynemouth which has a MMN Wilkinson and if this is the correct registration (have ordered the pdf) then I can see a marriage (by banns) in 1832 St Andrew, Newcastle for John Jobling and Mary Wilkinson. Only have the BT at the mo and no idea if the Parish Register may give more info.

Thanks

Boo

Hi Boo
I'm sorry it's taken me a few days to reply. I haven't done any family history for about 18mths as my husband died May 20; a couple of times in last few months I promised myself I'd restart but somehow... I'm hoping that answering your message will re-ignite my enthusiasm but enough of me!

John Jobling 1810 - birth/baptism seen at Newcastle Central Library - 1st son of John & Ann nee Peel, as far as I'm aware he had 1 brother & 2 sisters. Can give more details if you would like them & possibly copies of BT?
John & Ann nee Peel as above
Joseph Peel as above
John m Mary no details re Mary. I have same 3 children but only from 1841c
Ann Peel I have her on 1841c & 1851c, can supply refs if you would like? Would love details if she is confirmed as daughter of John & Mary
My line descends from John Jobling b1810 younger brother Joseph

Hi Judith

My condolences for the death of your husband. Hope that the good memories are starting to ease the pain of your loss at least in a little way, though that take can a long while.

I'm currently just doing the 'direct' line for these Joblings, taking it a step at a time to confirm at each stage that I am on the right track.
Have not yet looked at the John and Ann (nee Peel) in detail, but will do soon, thanks for the info about their son Joseph.

Am waiting for the (likely) birth cert for the Ann Jobling who is with John and Mary on the 1841 and 1851 census, which hopefully enable me to confirm the possible marriage I have for them with Mary as nee Wilkinson.

Will update when it arrives.

Boo

Hi Judith, hope you are well.
update as promised:

Going backwards and checking at each stage I ended up on the 1841 census with this family living at Bigges Main

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:M7WC-ZB8

The youngest child, Ann, was born c 1839 and was baptised 21 July at Longbenton per the BTs
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3QS7-L967-PWSX?

the GRO site  gave a MMN of Wilkinson
I now have the pdf of her birth registration:

Born 22nd April 1839 at Bigges Main, Ann, girl
father John Jobling, Pitman
mother Mary Jobling, formerly WIlkinson
registered by mother, Mary Jobling, Bigges Main, Walker on 8th May 1839.

I believe this is a likely contender for the marriage of John Jobling and Mary Wilkinson

St Andrew Newcastle Bts 15 Mar 1832
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-67F3-V4C?

and John's baptism in 1810
Baptism 9 Dec 1810, Gosforth BTS
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-627S-Z7K?

per Durham Records Online (probably  from PR, but that's not clear)

30 Dec 1810 John Jobling, of West Kenton, born 25 Apr, 1st son of John Jobling (pitman, native of the parish of Stamfordham) by his wife Anne Peel (daughter of Joseph Peel, native of Kenton)

and a likely marriage for John's parents
John Jobling and Ann Peel
Gosforth BTs  09 Sep 1809

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:S3HT-627S-W3Z?

Am hoping to get copies of original parish records for the above BTs, on the offchance that they 'may' have more info.
Can take a fair while to get copies from Woodhorn, but I'll make a list and send in an order.

Boo
