Many thanks for the latest information: a good thought.   For what it's worth, I think my John is the one who died SQ 1870 aged 77 (haven't bought cert. yet) so would be born 1793.  1851 Census indicates c.1789 and 1861 indicates c.1796.

A somewhat belated reply! I found your query by chance so you may have already updated your information regarding John and Lydia Ramkin. According to the IGI, Lydia was baptised Jan 6, 1793 in Furneaux Pelham, daughter of William and Lydia Rand. She first married Francis Chatters in Furneaux Pelham Oct 25, 1816. Francis was the brother of Rachel Chatters who first married John Ramkin.

Hi Brian

Thanks for your message.  You are right, my research has moved on since this thread.  I found out about the Rankins/Chatters links.  But I've eliminated them from my enquiries because I'm now convinced that the Emma Rankin I'm interested in is not the daughter of John Rankin after all, but of John Boardman and Sarah Rankin; she was born 23 September 1821 and baptised 17 March 1822 at the Independent Chapel in Braintree.

My problem now is pinning down her mother Sarah Rankin!

Thanks again,
Melbell
