Silvester Reeves
« on: Thursday 05 April 12 14:23 BST (UK) »
Help looking for Silvester Reeves parents. He was born 1795 in Bongor Isycoed (forgive me if I have written that wrong) Flintshire.  Married Mary Ann Richards in 1813 in Malpas Cheshire and died 1851 Newton Heath, Manchester.  Had a least three chrildren Jane, William, Ann.  He was a black smith.  I have found that in some records Silvester was written with an I and some with an Y.

Any help would be great even if some one can point me in the right direction.

Cheers :)

Hello nmg1,

The name is Bangor Isycoed and it translates as Bangor on Dee.

I cannot help with the baptism of Silvester but you might like to see this:

Hello, sorry for the five year delay in replying.  Are you still looking for answers?  I have Silvester in my tree, and confirm the details in the post except for the number of children. I found another 4 from baptism records, not evident from the first census in 1841.  I have not found a baptism record or details of his parents so far.

Hello, further to my post yesterday, I found in the Parish Registers for Tarvin ( Baptisms 1772-1926), that Silvester and Mary had the following children:
Sarah bpt. 25 Jan 1829 abode Tarvin
Mary bpt. 23 Apr 1815 abode Kelsall
Edward bpt. 13 Jul 1817 abode Tarvin
John bpt 25 Dec 1824 surname Reaves abode Duddon Trade Blacksmith
Eliza bpt. 14 Apr 1822 surname Reaves abode Clotton, blacksmith
Ann bpt. 14 Apr 1822 surname Reaves abode Clotton Blacksmith
William bpt. 26 Feb 1832 surname Reaves abode Clotton, Blacksmith
There are sufficient common factors for me, so I have included them in my tree, subject to further verification.  For example, although John and William are shown on the 1841 census with Silvester, I would like to track down where the rest went.
There is a child Silvester shown on the 1841 census, which I assumed was Silvester's; this is not the case.  The birth certificate ( Q2 Chorlton 1841 ref vol 20, page 254) shows the mother as Ann Reeves, with no father quoted, and the informant being Mary, probably Silvester's wife. I am assuming that the mother is Silvester's spinster daughter, Ann. Young Silvester died in 1842 ( Qr 2 1842 Chorlton ref vol 20 page 205).  There is a burial record 0n 12th June 1842 at Rusholme Road Cemetery, buried in grave 89, which seems to be a communal area for children.
Any information on Silvester the senior's siblings or his parents would be greatly appreciated.

Just to add a little.  Pigot & Co's Natiional Commercial Directory of 1828/29 lists Silvester Reeves as blacksmith in Clotton, Tarporley, Cheshire.   Also I noted in the FindMyPast 'image' of the marriage that Silvester is said to be of Bulkeley and Mary Anne Richards of Bickerton.  He must have been in transit from Bangor!

Hi
Thanks for the information, I had some of the children but had not confirmed them. I can't help with what happened to any of them.  Only William as my line comes down through him.  I hit abit of a brick wall trying to find Silvester's parents.  By the looks of things I have the same census records as
you.  Sorry I can't be of more help, if you would like any information on William please just let me know.
