Hawick Cemetery records
« on: Saturday 07 April 12 17:28 BST (UK) »
[I've posted this elsewhere by accident, so apologies]

I'm going to Hawick tomorrow to research my forefathers.

Unfortunately I've left one subject late and cannot contact proper authorities because they are closed this weekend.

Can anyone tell me if they can look up the burial place of William Robb of Newmill on Teviot? He would possibly be buried in a Hawick cemetery.

John was the schoolmaster at NOT and died on 7th October 1929.

Alternatively does anyone know which section of Wellogate Cemetery holds the 1929 burials?

It's a long shot but thanks in anticipation
David

Wellogate may have a section with the majority of burials around 1929 towards the middle to back not on the highest areas, but in general burials are mixed around the cemetery, depending on family plots and available liars/space.

Best to check with the town hall about the liar book, it used to be kept at the cemetery lodge years ago, but I think it know at the Town Hall.

William Robb may be buried in Hawick, but try Teviothead and Newmill area first.

There is a record at the Hub of some of the old gravestones at the Wellogate and St Mary's Church printed around the 1930's, but not sure if graves around 1929 are included.

best of luck

Terianne

Many thanks for taking time to respond to my message.

Your information will be very useful and I'll begin the search this afternoon.

My cousin and I had a great day out in Hawick BTW and managed to achieve most of our goals.

It was excellent to wander around a town which appears to be unspoilt by time.
