1841 lookup - HARDY of Saham Toney
« on: Tuesday 17 May 05 21:44 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

Just subscribe to the list. I'm researching HARDY (from Hardley and Norwich St Stephens) and RICHES (Saham Toney)  names in Norfolk around 1820.

Would some kind soul be able to check the existance of JOHN HARDY b Saham Toney abt 1826 on the 1841 cenus (or 1851) .

John is married to Mary ? b abt 1824 also of Saham Toney in the 1861 , first child Lucy HARDY b abt 1844 so it may well be that they werer not married in 1841.

Best wishes,

Stuart

Worn out from gardening so I thought I'd be kind.  I have to say that the beginning of the Saham Toney schedule is really really feint.  I looked on the Archive CD Books version of the 1841 Census which to my money is about the best.  This seems as though it could be John:

Census 1841 Saham Toney HO107/785/23 fol 13 p18

Samuel Hardy 60 Ag lab
Mary 55
William 38
Samuel 28
Rebekah 21
John 16

Either they practised restraint or there are a lot of other Hardys somewhere!

Many thanks, Brian, for the 1841 and Blue Spirit for the 1851.  Your efforts are much appreciated!

Pleased to see that they are both the same family. Yes - small, but they get bigger by the end of the 19thC!!!!

Best wishes,

Stuart

Hello Stuart,

I'm also researching the Riches family who lived in Saham Toney (& Gaywood).

I have a Robert Riches (born in Gaywood & living at Saham Toney) and his family. He's down as a shopkeeper. His parents are John Riches & Sarah Riches (nee Cousins). They are my 3x great grandparents.

Not a direct link to your information, but must be some relation. Robert was born on
12 March 1855
Gaywood, Norfolk

Died on
30 May 1913
Saham Toney, Norfolk

Hello simply and welcome to RootsChat.

Stuart hasn't been online here since Feb 2010, however hopefully he still has the same email address and will receive notification of your post. I'm sure he would like to follow up your information.

I first posted about 11 years ago and since then I have refined my Hardy line in and around Saham Toney but my Riches line are all from further east in Norfolk at Hardley and before that at Mettingham just across the border into Suffolk.
