Hi Druid56

Often helps to include a time frame to your searches for locations so that people can focus on resources for that period. Also, where is your reference from?

I can see Kirkland just above Kirkinner (also Kirland Bridge and Kirland Hill) on this site www.old-maps.co.uk/maps.html - just insert kirkinner in the search box or co-ordinates 242500:551500). This is on the 1850 map (options on the right).

The 1841 census on www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl is also a useful tool to help you narrow down the enumerator's walk by previous/next property - a useful tool when searching for the location of a place. I searched for an Alexander McCulloch in Kirkinner/Wigtownshire which brought up Farmer McCulloch at Kirkland, other entries too at that location.

Worth having a look at further details here www.genuki.org.uk/big/sct/WIG/Kirkinner/index.shtml#Maps

Modern photos here www.geograph.org.uk/search.php?i=30149123

Hi Monica thanks for the input and info , the ifo I have is from an 1869 marriage certificate Mary Ann Agnew to Rbert McCoskry and it gives her usual residence as Kirkland Kirkinner . Thanks again for the pointers
