twigg - childrens home
« on: Sunday 08 April 12 19:34 BST (UK) »
hi all, this is my first message, so i hope im doing this right.  I am looking to find out which childrens home/workhouse my grandad may have gone into.  His father Benjamin Twigg died around 1915, they lived in Poplar in London, and my grandads name was Thomas Frederick Twigg (born 1905). Can I find out a list of home/workhouses from 1910-1920 in poplar and admisssion or leavers lists, and if so where.  Any help would be fantastic, as ancestry just turning up blanks. ???

Hi, Will668 Welcome to Rootschat.  Try this site it may help.
www.workhouses.org
You could also look to see if the archives and local studies covering the area you are interested in have their catalogue on line and search for what they hold.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat, so as to help out, could I  just ask who Benjamin married and where, prior to the birth of Thomas Frederick in 1905, and what happened to his mother?

Hi

If they survive, the records may be at the London Metropolitan Archives.

their catalogue is here, you need to login as a guest

Just joined this so I am hoping I am doing this right. I am looking for my family with the same name and born in same area. My grandmother was Kathleen Twigg with a sister Maggie Twigg and a Thomas Twigg. Details are scarce as we have been in Australia for 46 years and my dad lost touch with his family. But your details match the exact same details I found on Ancestry. I have other details to confirm such as who my grandmother married. Do you think we could be looking for details on the same family and we could possibly be related. I landed here with a google search and am hoping for a positive answer.

Hi and welcome to Rootschat  ;D

will668 hasn't been online here since 2012 but as long as their email address hasn't changed, should receive a notification that you have posted and hopefully come back soon.
