Offer: Nottinghamshire Register of Motor Vehicles, 1903
« on: Thursday 12 April 12 04:44 BST (UK) »
You will have to have rather wealthy relatives for this register to be much use (I don't ::) )...but it does make fascinating reading...

Hi Glenhurst,

Unfortunately the list I have does not include the licence number, though I think that information is available - so I will see if I can find out more.

However, there was only one Argyll registered in 1903 in the whole of Notts. It belonged to Arthur Edwin Cooke Watson of the Black Boy Hotel, Mansfield. It had a Tonneau body, was "Natural colour, varnished and picked out with red lines".

Cheers
Alexander

Hi

My great-grandfather is on there! Thomas Philip Barber of Eastwood. By all accounts he was a terrifyingly fast driver, so would be good to know what he was driving in 1903. Thanks!

Tom

Hi Tom,

Welcome to RootsChat :)

Thomas was one of the few people in Notts to own 2 vehicles in 1903 - a car and motorbike. Here are the details:

Thomas Philip Barber, of Lamb Close, Eastwood, Notts.
18 Hp. Car, Chenard & Walcher (weight about 1 ton). Tonneau body. Painted green, yellow wheels.
2 Hp. Cycle, Singer (120 lbs).

Regards,
Alexander
