James and Christina GUNN - Disappeared after the 1841 census?

Many thanks for your help to Beg and indirectly to me.

Mary's death certificate and her daughters birth certificate both say that Mary was born in Thurso, Caithnessshire Scotland in 1839. Her marriage certificate says 1840.

She married an Andrew Jones in 1863 in Waikouaiti New Zealand in 1863.

They had 4 children.

Henry, born 1864, died 1927. Married a Lydia Breach in 1889.I have a birth and marriage certificate.

William Gunn Jones. Not sure of any dates

James, born 1870, died 1891

Mary Christina, born 1877. I have a transcript of her birth certificate.

Hi Russ

Still hopeful I am about this Thurso Mary (Maria/Mona) that we have found.

We have a gap however in children's names which is a pity - the early ones can be the important ones on the naming pattern if it was used.

William Gunn is a good name for the family we have from Thurso given there is a William Gunn (second born son?) for the family of John Gunn and Elizabeth/Alice Wels/ch.

How to progress though from now  As good as info can look, you need at least one key piece of info to even begin to get close to confirming families...

Following on from Russ's post, here are names of Mary's four children and some grandchildren found on BDM NZ

(Child 1) Henry b.1865 - m.1892 to Lydia had four sons

Henry and Lydia's children...

James Andrew b.1891 - m.1914 to Minnie Edith JENSEN

Eric Levi b.1896

John Freston/Feiston b.1898
May be named after Freston Hill, where Henry and Lydia lived.
May have a son William Christian JONES.

Albert Matai b.1899 - d.1921



(Child 2) William Gunn JONES b.1866? - m.1892 Janet had one daughter and two sons

William and Janet's children...

Violet Lilian b.1892 - m.1921 Edward George CHUDLEIGH

Victor Matau b.1894 - d.1894

Eustace Leonard b.1897 - d.1968


(Child 3) James Andrew JONES b.1870 - d.1891

No children


(Child 4) Mary Christina b.1877 - m.1914 George Goddard SMITH - d.1962

Unknown if they had any children
