I grew up with the younger boys of the Rodger(s) family, Jim and Drew. Their father was Alexander, quite an old man to have children my age, I think he was married twice, either he was or it may have been his wife, I can't remember now. His wife was Belle, (probably Isabel or Isabella) and her maiden name was, I think, Armstrong. Her father lived in the old tenement building on Alexander Street in Wishaw. Mr Rodger worked for the government at the Naval Stores just up the road in Netherton and, I'm pretty sure he was English. (He wasn't like the other dads in the street at all, he never spoke to us kids and certainly didn't mix with any of the adults). Both Jim and Drew are still in the area, Drew works off-shore. They had older siblings and half-siblings, so there was a previous marriage for one of the parents. An older brother was Alexander, a strange chap, he was definitely a Rodger but there were married sisters who didn't live in the area and I don't remember them ever visiting Barons Road. As small boys we thought it odd that other boys our age (pre-teens) had siblings who were married.
Mr Rodger has been dead for many years, Mrs Rodger lived to a ripe old age, unloved by any of her children, she was still at No.30 when she died I think, Drew and his wife lived there for a short time with her but she didn't make it easy or comfortable for them. After she died the house was sold and strangers live there now.
