Hi
I live here in Doncaster and looking at the 1960 Doncaster Town Directory, Fairfield Nursing Home was No's 91-93  Thorne Rd. and was situated on the corner of the Thorne Rd./Queen's Rd. junction. It was there in the 1960's but it has been demolished and is now a Carpark for my Doctor's Surgery across the road.
If you have Google Earth you may see it semi hidden behind some trees at the junction, heading out of town on the LHS. and a Pedestrian Crossing on Thorne Rd. directly in front of it.
1893 Directory info.   Robert Robinson  and was called Arendal House.
Hope this helps!
Bill

Hello, I too am looking for Abiel Nursing Home information. My brother was born and died there in September 1945. I would like to know where he is buried and wondered if they had any records? If you find any-could you let me know please?

Hello

I was born in the Abiel Nursing Home in Doncaster. It was situated on Thorne Road but I cannot remember the number. I think it composed of 2, 3 storey, semidetached houses which I know are still there and are near to the junction of Thorne Road and Town Moor Avenue. Your brother would have been buried in the Rosehill cemetery in Doncaster and they should be able to help you with any more details if you contact them.
Sorry I can't be more help to you. The Doncaster Archives and Local Studies department are to open later this year and they should be able to give you more information about the Abiel Nursing Home etc.
