Cap badges
« on: Friday 27 April 12 13:39 BST (UK) »
Hi there

I have a picture of my great uncle from 1941 in his uniform but I cant make out his cap badge. Is there a website that anyone know of where I can try and match it?

Or am I allowed to post the picture so other people can have a go??  :)

Many thanks

Cliff

Hi Cliff,
I have a good reference book, but I do need to see a picture of the cap badge. You are allowed to post a picture of the cap badge.

Yes!  And you are on it ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Post away and I am sure the military gurus will be able to help. Try and get as clear a picture with good resolution as you can as that will make it easier for them.

Now you have posted the badge why not post the rest of the pic, a uniform may assist  what is possibly Yeomanry or Cavalry.

Hi,
It looks like The 10th (Prince of Wales's Own Royal) Hussars. It is similar to that of the 3rd Dragoon Guards, this badge simply deploys the traditional Prince of Wales plumes, motto and coronet in bimetal, though an all-brase version, issued in 1916, also exists. The regiment's 'Royal' title was granted in 1738. The Prince of Wales referred to became King George IV in 1820, although there was no change in regimental title.

Thanks so much for the replies - am I right in assuming the Hussars/Guards were both WW2 Tank regiments? Mum always said my uncle was infantry ... hope this is the right uncle!

Ive got the original - just need a magnifying glass!
