Hi Margp

Yes I have them (the lady in my profile pic is Hannah Siddall the daughter in law of Joseph and Hannah) and as I was reviewing my files I realised I had this gap......hence my original question.

Joseph's father James was one of 5 siblings but strange I've had trouble finding any siblings for Joseph himself.  That may be because all my Siddall's favoured the names James, Joseph and John over the generations, not to mention the Mary's and Ann's and it's really difficult trying to work out who belongs to whom!  I'm sure you know what a minefield it is!

Thanks for your input though, much appreciated.

With 60+ Siddall's in 1841 and 1861 it makes me wonder if some pages have been lost for 1851?  They can't all have disappeared?

I have checked the original images for the whole of Sowerby and unless the couple named as Joseph and Hannah Wild should, in fact, be J & H Siddall, they are most definitely not there. I found a number of Siddalls ( spellings various) and a number of Cockrofts but nobody who could be the right couple.

So maybe JenB's suggestion that the enumerator wrote them down wrongly is the correct one. As all their children in the 1861 census were born in Sowerby, I suspect you might have to accept that although you won't know exactly where they were in 1851, they won't have been far away! :)

Jen

Hi

I wonder if Joseph was born a Wild and his mother married a Siddall and he used both names I have seen this happen before

THink Ancestry has them in 1841 as Siddal, in sowerby

James - 50  worsted handloom weaver
Martha - 20   woolcomber
George - 15  woolcomber
Joseph - 13  woolcomber

Piece 1304, book 10, folio 29, page 16

I can see baptisms for Martha and George, children of James and Betty. Also for a Sarah, b 1822

Hi Mable and thank you  for checking that out.  :)

Just out of interest, did you see any other James/Joseph/John Siddall's in 1841?

Also, did you note where the children were baptised?

Thanks
