Bapt in HALESWORTH - GIRDLESTONE
« on: Sunday 06 May 12 16:23 BST (UK) »

Hi Im trying to tie up all my loose ends.

Im trying to find the baptism of Henry Girdlestone b 1797-1807 Halesworth - Suffolk

On this website his father is recorded as William but im unsure who his mother is. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/NJMH-4DH

Any help in placing this loose file of mine would be most greatful.

Hello Jill

Had a look at the Suffolk Burial Index for you just for clues.  There are only 5 Girdlestone burials in Halesworth recorded on it they are:

Emma GIRDLESTONE 7 Aug 1893 age 84 (wife of O Girdlestone, Pound St) Halesworth Cemetery

Owen GIRDLESTONE 12 Feb 1894 age 83 (machinist, Pound St), Halesworth Cemetery

Owen William GIRDLESTONE 24 Sep 1836 age 1 Halesworth, St Mary.
Napier GIRDLESTONE 10 Feb 1851 age 10mths, Halesworth St Mary
George Harry GIRDLESTONE 5 Mar 1851 age 14, Halesworth St Mary.

From the Suffolk Marriage Index:
Owen GIRDLESTONE married Emma COLLETT 2 Feb 1832 Halesworth

There are no other Girdlestone marriages listed in Halesworth during the period 1813-1837 on the SMI.

I hope this info will slot in somewhere.

Keziah

That's interesting as my Collett ancestors moved to Halesworth from (oops missed out Henstead) Suffolk after 1840 but before the 1841 census.  I wonder if Emma was some relation and that is why my Colletts moved to Halesworth too.

Hi
Many thanks for all your replys.

Keziah - Thank you for the information on the burials which I didnt have.

I managed to find Henry's bapts on a google search which brought up a previous conversation on rootsweb. his bapts was 8/6/1802 Halesworth, Suffolk. parents William and Anne Clark. I believe they married 1798 Holton, nr Halesworth. As of yet im still trying to find out where William came from.

Lizzie - If you come across Emma Collett in your research I would be interested to know more. According to the census records she was born about 1813 Newington. (Hope this helps). I havent searched for her baptism yet. As Im still trying to find out where Henry Girdlestone and all his family fits into my tree.

Kind regards
Jill

Hi Jill

I've looked at all the Collett records I have and can't find any Emma Colletts born in Newington, Surrey, but if I come across her, I will let you know.

Lizzie

Modified - ps.  Just looked up Newington, Surrey on Genuki and it was in the area we call Brixton, near Elephant and Castle etc.
