What does LPC mean in applying to enter USA in 1920

My greatgrandmother made an application to enter New York in 1920 to visit a friend. In previous applications to enter Canada her passage from Scotland is paid by herself but in the USA application it states her passage paid by LPC. Does anyone know what this stands for ?

The notation LPC on a ship's passenger list is "Likely to become a Public Charge."
This usually indicated the immigrant didn't have money, didn't have a destination address in the US, or didn't have a friend or relative to meet them.

Thanks for clearing that up Sandra but it seems strange to put it against her name as she's listed as carrying $200 and going to visit a friend in Yonkers, address given. I would have thought $200 was a lot of money in 1920  ?

 The wording you use makes me question exactly what record you are talking about. What do you mean by "made an application" and "previous applications to enter Canada"?  Is there some record of "applications" made (so I'm inferring some record of approval/rejection), or are you just referring to passenger manifests on which you have found your great grandmother? ?

Hi Tom sorry to confuse you. I used the terminology I was used to having worked in immigration.
The jewishgen site answered my question and gave more information which has been fascinating reading.
