Looking for Hugh Cochrane
« on: Sunday 06 May 12 20:19 BST (UK) »
Hugh Cochrane married Annie Hastie on 5 Oct 1877 when he was 29. They lived at 554 Garscube Road Glasgow and at the Etna Buildings in Falkirk. Somewhere around 1898/9 they separated.
Does anyone know where he went after the separation and also where and when he died as I haven't been able to find a death certificate for him  ?

I think he might be down in England for 1901. There is a Hugh Cochrane showing as boarding in the Middlesbrough area with a McWilliams family from Ireland. He is aged 50, married and shows as born in Scotland (rather than Ireland) and a moulder's labourer by occupation.

Did he not return to Scotland? Have you got Annie, his wife still living alone by 1911? Any clues from his children's marriage certs that could help regarding their father such as alive or deceased at the time of their marriage?

Hi Monica thanks for getting back to me with that info, that's very helpful and sounds possible. I wondered if he would have gone to England. His wife was still on her own in 1911 but she married again in 1915 stating she was a widow.
I have to go back to the records office in Edinburgh to look for his childrens' marriage certificates and as you say may glean more info there.
He was a moulder in Glasgow and Falkirk before he left his wife.
