Hiya Fiona,

Nope, I have no family branches in Kerry, so HA didn't drag the hubby and kids around churches and graveyeards for that holiday !

Hiya Heywood, I think I am on the same 'wavelength' as Fiona now.

I think I'm right in saying that Fiona's main interest is Garrett the Tailor and has been trying for years to find out the townland he originated in.

Through new info including wills of family members she is pretty sure that James (that we found yesterday in Trippul) is the brother of Garrett.

So I suppose you can say 'find the townland of one brother, you have the townland of the other brother'.

Tara

Yes I too am now on the same wavelength - at last.
If only the original request had said that Garrett in Clare was the main interest and not the siblings and their father James.  ;)

As you say - no Kerry birthplace. I found the children on FS and some grave inscriptions but no marriage for Garrett Stack and Ellen Halloran. :(

Tara seems to have found them though, thank goodness.

best wishes
heywood

Hi Heywood, I posted queries re Garrett on message boards a number of times over the past few years and got no replies at all. So I decided to try the James' offspring route yesterday and I'm glad I did as it has finally turned up trumps thanks to you and Tara.

I have all the info on Garrett once he arrived in Clare - he married Ellen in Ennis cathedral in 1858 - and I have all the details of their children, & other descendents. The brick wall was in identifying where in Kerry he had come from. Thanks again.

That's brilliant! I'm really pleased for you.  :)

As Tara says- sometimes it's too late at night - but thankfully she got you there. :)

good luck

heywood

Thanks, Heywood. Here's hoping the gaps in the records continue to be filled in. I am involved in transcribing gravestones and old school registers so am trying to do my bit.   :D :) ;)
Goodnight.

Aw, thanks guys !

I'm not great with district names for Kerry but Trippul seems to be the area named on most of the family's paperwork.

I'm wondering as one or two say Ballylongford.....is Trippul classed as a townland in the district of Ballylongford ?

Maybe someone can pinpoint this for you !

Best of Luck

Tara

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I am also researching Stacks from Kerry who emigrated to Pittsburgh. I don't know if there's any relation to your stacks, but my Stacks came from Ballybunion and at least two of the siblings went to Pittsburgh around 1880. The two that went were Honora Stack, born in 1857 and Philip Stack, born in 1860. Both were the children of Philip Stack and Mary Molony.
