Snowden / Maxwell Burgh-by-Sands
« on: Tuesday 08 May 12 08:38 BST (UK) »
I've hit a blank with this part of my family tree:

Daniel Snowden b 1779 married Margaret Maxwell b 1777 on 19th May 1804 at Burgh by Sands, Cumberland.  They had the following children:
Albert Kennedy, christened at Rockcliffe, Cumberland on 8th February 1805
Herbert Kennedy, christened at St Mary’s Carlisle on 29th November 1808
Thomas, christened at St Mary’s Carlisle on 8th December 1808
Margaret, christened at St Mary’s, Carlisle on 1st January 1811
Elizabeth, christened at St Mary’s Carlisle on 1st November 1812

I'm looking for any help in finding Daniel Snowden's or Margaret Maxwell's parents...

Thanks

Hi
Where did you get their year of birth from?    If it was the 1841 census remember that ages were generally rounded down to the nearest 5 so you may need to widen your search for baptisms a bit.  The Kennedy as a middle name might be a helpful clue.  Odd that they have two children baptised within a couple of weeks of each other or is the year wrong for one of them?

Thanks Andrea.
I'll re-check the baptism dates.  You say that the middle name (Kennedy) may be useful - how might this be?

I don't think they do appear on a census, but their son does:

Thomas Snowden (b circa 1807), a Mechanic, married Isabella McAdam (b Carlisle, Cumberland circa 1808) on 2nd July 1832. According to the 1861 Census they lived at 29 Napier Street, Ardwick and their children included:
Elizth (a Silk Winder) b Manchester circa 1844
Charlotte M b Ardwick, circa 1848
Sarah Ann b Manchester circa 1851

Can you let me know how the middle name (Kennedy) could be used to help search further?

It's likely to be the surname of an ancestor (usually a female).
Today I broke my personal record for most consecutive days alive.

1pds - I guess we must be distantly related as I have just left you a post on William Loft! :D

I got stuck with Thomas Snowden and have been waiting to get back into the Society of Geneologists library in London to see if the parish records can throw up anything.

How did you get to Daniel Snowden being the father of Thomas?  I have never seen a Daniel in the line so was not sure of the connection and without the parish records to confirm one way or the other I have left it for now, so would be really grateful for any info you may have.   :)
