William & Rosanna Sands - Hulme

Hi all,

I'm trying to research the parents of William and Rosanna Sands.  I have the following info:

William Sands (b Manchester 1838) married Rosanna McKervey (b Manchester 1838). Rosanna is also listed with the surname McKerney in some of the records.  The 1871 Census shows William and Rosanna as married and living at 46 Owen Street, Hulme.  That census shows the head of the house as Daniel O’Neill (b circa 1801, Ireland) and that Rosanna Sands was his daughter.  However, the 1851 census lists Rosanna McKerney as being Daniel’s stepdaughter at the same address.

Any help or advice gratefully received!

1841 census has a William Sands (b 1838) with parents Joseph and Catherine living at Jersey Street, Manchester.

Copy of the marriage certificate will give the name of William's father.

Daniel must have Married Annie, Rosannas Mother, abt 1849/1850 as on the 1851 census Daniel/Annie have a Son John, 7mths, born c 1850.

William Sands and Rosanna McKervey were married in the Sept.quarter 1860 at Chorlton - ref. 8c 656.    (Rosanna's entry has page number mistranscribed).

The marriage was Chorlton on Medlock, register  office or registrar attended 1860

Thanks Heatherjulie. What would the difference be between registry office or registrar attended? I assumed that you could only be married in a church or register office in those days.
