I wonder if this solves it?

(1861 census)

Jesse Mogg, Head, 43, Baker, born Haselbury Brian, Dorset
Elizabeth Mogg, Wife, born Henstridge, Somerset
William Mogg, 15, Son, Bakers Apprentice, born Lydlinch
Eliza Mogg, 11, Dau, born Lydlinch
Charles Moss, 8, Son, born Lydlinch
Sarah Ann Mogg, 2, , Daughter, born Lydlinch

I wonder if Sadie and Eliza were Sydenham's nieces (even with Eliza's age being a little off).   If they were Sydenham's children they don't seem to have ever lived with him and I would have expected perhaps to find them with him at least once.  In 1911 Eliza has a son called Jesse (named after grandfather perhaps?)

You could be right. Jesse was an older brother of Sydenham. Maybe Sarah Ann was close to my Grandfather Cecil (Sydenham's and Helena's child) and my Auntie's and my mum  could of just thought of her as a sister to their dad, rather than a cousin.  I will check with my mum and will probably have to get a certificate or two.

Many thanks for your hard work, it is much appreciated. David

I wonder if this is where the thinking behind Sydenham having a daughter Sarah came from:-

Sarah Hannah Mogg, daughter of Sydenham and Elizabeth Mogg, christened 4 September 1872 at St Matthew St Marylebone, London.

1881 it seems she is away at school in Cheddar, Somerset explaining why she is not with the parents.

and Mary Elizabeth Mogg, daughter of Sydenham Mogg, married at Lydlinch on 26 December 1887 to George Lawrence.  She was 21 so born around 1866 so she fits as being Sydenham and Elizabeth's child as well.  One of the witnesses was Sarah Mogg

That is excellent investigating. My mum has informed me that Sadie was a half sister to my Grandad so that makes sense.

Many thanks  :D
