Florece Keer b 1862 India
« on: Thursday 10 May 12 20:54 BST (UK) »
I am a bit confused as to what the ship manifest is telling me...

If one of you could look at the manifes to help me figure out departure date and city...and arrival date and city...

Is Florence going from India to England to New York...or is she going from England to NY...or India to NY...by way of England

Sooo confusing when I actually looked at the ship manifest and tried to read it...
Thanks for your help

 :) :) :) :) :)

Looking on the British newspaper archive Mrs Major General Keer, as she is styled, appears to be a prominent evalangalist, possible Salvationist, and is described in one piece as daughter of the late Dr Somerville who filled the moderator's chair of the free Church (this snippet from an Aberdeen paper)

More about Dr Somerville here

Thanks all for all of your hard research...I had not quite gotten there yet.  Been trying to find the Jonathan Keer Family which included Florence in 1881....when I saw her in this ship manifest I could not make out if she was traveling from India to England and then to NY or if the family was IN India and she was heading to Canada where her father had remarried and the new wife had Honoria in 1883 in Toronto which was called York.

Can one of you look at this manifest and let me know which way she is going.  Thanks a bunch!

Am excited to read the additional info all of you have gotten!!!

Hugs sent yoru way!

Hi

Can I suggest you visit the FIBIS (Families in British India Society) website, and do a search, this will return a number of useful snippits relating to the Keer family.

Johnathan must have had an interesting time, serving with the 60th Native Infantry Regiment during the Indian Mutiny. Following the mutiny this regiment was disbanded.
