« on: Friday 11 May 12 20:37 BST (UK) »

Looking for birth/baptism details for Robert Brendan MOLLOY who was born in Birr, Offaly (Kings) County of a RC family.  He died in England in 1975 and his death certificate gives his date of birth as 31Oct1900.

Any info on Robert or his family would be much appreciated.

It might be better to search for a civil birth rather than a baptism, since most online sources only cover up to the end of the 1800s for parish baptism records. An Irish Civil BMD Index is available on the FamilySearch website. You can order possible birth certs from the GRO using the index references.

Do you have his father's name and occupation from the marriage cert ?

If they stayed on Ireland during 1901 and 1911, they should appear on the Irish census returns.

see : Introduction to Irish Records

Did your Robert marry an O'Connor in Lambeth, London in 1926 ?

There's a Robert Molloy, no middle name, age 10 (c1901) listed on the 1911 Irish census return in Birr town that might fit your Robert. Father's name is John, an Agricultural Labourer... a marriage cert for Robert should help confirm if this is the correct family

Hi Shane,

Many thanks for your replies.  I can confirm that Robert married Rosa Mary O'Connor in 1926 at Lambeth.  I have ordered a marriage certificate.

I recently found an entry in the family Bible and lists the siblings of my Mother, and Robert Brendan Molloy of Birr s quite likely my uncle whom I never met or even knew about until now, My mother was born in either 1914 or 1916 I believe , so the 1900 date for Robert seems likely. My Grandfather on my mother's side was John Molloy so that also fits. It would seem counting my mother there were 3 girls and 3 boys.

This Search on https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/civil-search.jsp  should find any registered BMD for them

Just tick Births or whatever and put in year ranges without being too exact!

Many thanks for the information and the links. Some of what I see falls into place from what I know and other things leave me scratching my head. I expected to see a birth for my mother,Elizabeth for April 1916 instead we have Mary Agnes in August 1916, it is possible my mothers date of birth was 1914 but in her recording of her siblings there was no mention of Mary Agnes. I will continue to search especially now that I have these threads- once again I appreciate the help.
