Tannon Gra?
« on: Friday 20 May 05 13:09 BST (UK) »
Have just discovered a tiny drop of Welsh blood in the family.  :)

Edward REEVES born c.1786 has been recorded on the 1861 census in Newton, Cheshire lodging at his daughter's home in Cledford Bridge - Martha JOHNSON.

His place of birth has been recorded as Tannon Gra, Flintshire.

Not having had much luck with the literal spelling can any one suggest  where or what Tannon Gra might be?

Hi Odessa,

never heard of Tannon Gra, and its not Welsh either.

Had a look at the Genuki Flintshire Parishes page - nothing there that could even resemble Tannon Gra.

Hmmm.

Expanding my horizons somewhat, with an exceptional stretch of the imagination, could it be Ffynnongroyw?

Have you got him in any other census (i.e. 41 or 51)?

Hi D,

The 1851 isn't much clearer, BUT that entry look like Flintshire "Hanmer" or "Hamner"

Genuki for Flintshire does have a HANMER once known as Handmere....so are we on a winner do you think?
So now I think the 1861 may have been Tallarn Green , but see it did not exist prior to 1948!  ???

Perhaps it didn't exist as an independent parish, but I dare say it existed as a village or township, so the entry could very well be Tallarn Green.
