family of Alexander MURDOCH b1843 m Elizabeth Woods

I apologize if this post is in the wrong place. I was unsuccessful with the search feature.

 I am looking for information about my great great grandparents, Alexander MURDOCH who was born Feb 19 1843 in Portpatrick, Wigtownshire, Scotland and married Elizabeth Woods on Dec 31, 1867, East Taieri, Otago, New Zealand. I believe my great grandfather Robert was born in 1880 - he married Mary Margaretta Junge 1n 1913, probably in the same area. They later lived in Invercargill and had a large family.

I can't find birth information for Robert although I believe he died in 1942 aged 62.

I also can't find which ship the Murdochs immigrated to NZ on, although I have a date - 1861. I think Alexander came with his parents - John & Martha (nee Fisher).

The family must have left between the birth of James in March 1860 and the date of the 1861 Scottish census on 7th April 1861 - as they don't show in Scotland for that census.

I have received your message but can't seem to reply (maybe because I am new here?).

I would like to put together a "picture" of the life of the Murdoch family in NZ in particular. There seems to some incorrect information about Robert Murdoch who was my great grandfather - mostly I think because every generation seemed to use the same name and the families spanned so many years. I'd love information of where they lived and any "stories" about them. I have a photo of Robert (that I didn't know of before) and I know he was a (coal?) miner as he died of lung damage. Most of it it, including my grandfather's early years are just a mystery.

Thank you for any help and of course I am more than happy to add any details that you mayn't have.
If you have any stories or photos about their scottish ancestors, I'd love to hear that also.
