Ramsay and Elias Marsh
« on: Monday 16 April 12 22:07 BST (UK) »
I am in the process of trying to find out the life history of Ramsay Marsh who was  born in Durham on December 30th 1923 died 1985. I think he lived in Crook Billy Row and that his father's name was Elias.

I wonder if anybody can help me determining in when he moved to Slough where he lived at William Street, also if there is any method of finding out where he was educated.

Here is a picture of him on the left. I think it may have been taken in Slough after the war.
His father who was christened Elias but used an alias 'Fred' and  is the man on the far right of the group.
I wonder if anybody can help me determining what he did throughout his life
One man (the shorter) is just called Billy (Marsh?).
I have no idea who they can be.
How can I fnd out about them.

You need to search the electoral registers to see where he lived on William Street, Slough.

Do you have his death cert the address on it may be the same address in William St.

I have just looked on the map for William St, slough and the road north of the railway line I recall were all old victorian terrace houses.  I only mention this as if it had been on any of the new estates built after the war to house londoners being bombed out I would have said he probably went to slough via london.

Hello,

In your other thread you have given a few more details which will save people searching unnecessarily.

In that one you say he was a Turf Accountant/representative but here you are asking what he did  :-\
I can see that it is quite complicated.

I have just looked on street view and if you travel along the William St into Stoke Road on the left of the picture you will see a few old victorian terrace houses with a small flight of steps at the front, those house were all along that road.

Wow! Thanks everybody for you replies.

I have his address as first being 15 -17 William Street.

In the early 1970s he lived with his in a flat above his last betting shop near Burnham (in Stomp Road I think) with his mother.

He also used to live in a big house called Bona Vista in on the edge of Windsor on the Winkfield Ascot road near where Windsor Safari Park used to be.
Apparently, according to some, it was at this time he was living the high-life was very wealthy and had a series of fast cars and girlfriends such as top models (accordin to an exemployee and fan of his, or, fast women according to my mother).

After he remarried, he lived with his third wife and son by her at Ralphs Ride Bracknell

Around this time, had a carpet shop in Deadworth Windsor, while he had this business he provided the carpet to Windsor Safari Park bar, which was unique (he said)  in the early 1970s.
I have the impression that he attempted to go into the aviation business in Spain.
This may coincide with the time that his third wife left him and moved to Spain.
He subsequently either acted as chauffeur or had a chauffeur business supplying cars and drivers to wealthy Arabs who at the time were making themselves at home in England.`

He died of a heart attack in his car which was parked at home.

It is recorded that he died in hospital at Camden. His wife informs me that this is incorrect and that he died at Swiss Cottage.

Looking at your previous thread looking for divorce information if it was in the local papers they would be:-

the slough observer or the slough, windsor and eton express

I believe all copies of the newspapers are now held at slough library archives
